In sections where fire protection is required, cable ladders and trays can be fitted with fire-resistant or flame-retardant materials-such as panels or mesh-to form enclosed or semi-enclosed structures; additionally, measures such as applying fire-retardant coatings to the surfaces of the trays and their supports/hangers may be taken. The overall fire-resistance performance must comply with relevant national codes or standards. Aluminum alloy cable trays are not recommended for locations with stringent fire safety requirements.
For the same specifications, flame-retardant cable trays cost 2.2 times more than steel cable trays, offer a service life more than five times longer, and are 30% heavier. Fire-resistant cable trays are slightly more expensive than steel cable trays, offer a service life more than three times longer, and are roughly equal in weight to steel cable trays.
